１０．A Friend of Mine Gave Me a Picture Card for My Birthday. 誕生日に友人から絵手紙をもらった。 （２０１２．８．１２ 記）

My birthday is on May 17th. My friend Harumi-san gave me a picture card for my birthday. Chateraise's syrup-covered small agar cubes of partly green tea flavor, with red bean paste and various fruits, were painted on the card with accompanying words. I was so happy to receive such a hand-painted card. Harumi-san has learned painting picture cards for about two years. I think she paints picture cards much better than me who has just started painting picture cards. The lines of her picture are earthy but the picture itself looks very delicious with tempting colors. I thought she has a talent for painting. In her message, she said that she is planning to go to Tokyo Sky Tree with her husband next week.
私の誕生日は、５月１７日だ。友人の晴美さんが私に誕生日の絵手紙をくれた。ことばが添えられて、シャトレーゼの抹茶あんみつが描かれていた。私は、手描きの便りがすごくうれしかった。晴美さんはもう２年くらい絵手紙を習っている。私は初心者だが、彼女、私よりずっとうまいなぁと思った。絵に描かれた線が素朴で、色合いもとても美味しそう。それに絵心がある。通信欄には、来週、ご主人と東京スカイツリーに行く予定だと書いてあった。
I sent her a picture card, too, in response to hers. Mine is a picture of a giant salamander which I painted when our group visited a small aquarium in the next city last May 15, 2012. I accompanied the picture with words saying "Although I didn't know where your mouth or eyes were in your actual face..." I also wrote in the correspondence area that I met a man my age, who was painting a picture card on the riverbed when I went to the Tama River for cycling with my husband the other day. The man and I had topics of common interest in painting picture cards and talked for about 10 minutes. Before I left him, he said to me, "I hope we'll see each other again." I regretted in the car on the way home that I should have exchanged addresses with him. I was sure that Harumi-san who also paints picture cards would understand my feeling of regret at that moment.
私も彼女に返事の絵手紙を送った。私ののは、２０１２年５月１５日に隣りの市の小さな水族館へ行った時に描いたオオサンショウウオの絵だ。その絵に、「本物のあなたは、どこが口だか目だか、わからなかったんだけど・・・」という言葉を添えた。また、通信欄に、先日、多摩川に主人とサイクリングに行った時、河原で絵手紙を描いている同年輩の男性に会ったことを書いた。その人と私は、共通の関心事である絵手紙のことで話が合い、１０分くらい話した。別れ際に彼が私に「また会えますよねぇ」と言った。私は帰りの車の中で、あ々、あの人と住所交換すべきだったと悔やんだ。私は、絵手紙を描く晴美さんには、きっと私のあの時の残念な気持ちがわかるだろうと思った。
